Why Do I Need to Blog?!

Why Do I Need to Blog?

You know you’re supposed to but why?

It cuts into your Facebook stalking and online shopping time and it can be hard as heck to come up with new inspiring content, especially when you’re busy working your tail off day in and day out. So what’s the reasoning behind having to blog?

The short reason? Google. Seriously. I know it feels like Google controls everything we do online, but they’ve earned that right and can you imagine a world without it? Imagine trying to find the closest Chipotle without Google. Terrifying, I know.

The Breakdown

Blogs boost SEO and if you need a refresher on SEO and how it works click here.

Rank Higher

When you publish a blog you’re really telling Google that there are updates to your website, which will cause them to crawl your website searching for keywords and indexing accordingly.

If your competitors are frequently updating their blog, they’re going to probably rank higher than you because the more often Google crawls and indexes the better. And the higher you rank, the more visitors you will attract to your website.

Be Useful

A lot of clients ask, “How many people are reading my blog?” The answer? It doesn’t really matter. I mean, don’t get me wrong, if you have a ton of people reading your blog that is fantastic. However, if you’re just starting out you’re not going to have more than a handful of people regularly reading your blog posts. The amount of people who read your content will grow over time, but when you’re first starting out it’s important to just keep pumping out blogs that are useful and interesting to your readers.

When I say useful, I mean truly useful. Again, back to those search engines: your content will be ranked based on how useful your content is to readers. So, if you say you’re writing a blog on how to get a pesky flamingo out of your pool, you better tell them how to do that. Don’t use key words to drive people to your website and then talk about your flamingo floaties that everyone needs to buy. That is what we call “deception” and Google is not here for it. (That means they aren’t cool with it.)

The Win

So why do you need to blog? To drive traffic to your website. Blogging often about interesting and useful topics will allow you to rank higher in search. The higher you rank in search, the more discoverable you will become. The more discoverable you become, the more clients/customers you will gain.

Now that we’ve got that all cleared up, start blogging. If you need more help on how to get started with blogging click here.
